Next Steps

Your Next Steps for Speaking

After you review the steps below, meant to help you with the logistics of your presentation and the conference, take a moment to review the Tips for Success information page designed to help you deliver a strong presentation.

1. Register for the Conference

All speakers must complete online conference registration. The deadline to register for Governance Conference 2024 without a late fee is Feb. 2, 2024. Once you complete your online registration, you will be provided information for hotel lodging.

AGRiP typically does not pay for speakers who are AGRiP members, nor does AGRiP waive conference registration fees.

If you are not an AGRiP member eligible to register or if you do not plan to stay for the conference event, please contact us for special arrangements.

2. Collaborate for a Successful Presentation

Because we want to help ensure your success, the process of presenting at an AGRiP conference is highly collaborative. AGRiP staff reviews all content – even from our most experienced presenters – to ensure your session will resonate with the unique needs of public pooling officials and staff. AGRiP staff can provide directional suggestions and relevant examples that will connect to attendees and other conference content, thereby enhancing your presentation content.

We may ask you to incorporate relevant best practices from AGRiP Advisory Standards into your presentation. These are industry-specific guidelines developed by and for the pooling community to support pools in undertaking comprehensive review and evaluation of their internal operational procedures. We will collaborate to identify which best practices support your presentation.

3. Be Mindful of These Critical Deadlines

  • As Soon as Possible: Deadline for the title of your session, description (150 words), speaker’s name, speaker’s title and organization, speaker’s biography (150 words), headshot (jpg).
  • Jan. 19, 2024: First draft of presentation materials due.
  • Feb.  16, 2024: Final presentation materials due.

4. Preparing for Your On-Site Delivery

We ask that speakers introduce themselves and their session. The conference program is tightly scheduled, with 15 minutes between each presentation. To ensure that sessions stay on schedule, and out of respect for other presenters, we ask that speakers start their sessions and end their sessions on time.

Breakout or concurrent session rooms will be set up with the following equipment:

  • Screen and projector
  • Lectern
  • Podium microphone
  • Tabletop microphone
  • Sound system
  • Stage, table, chairs

The room will be set with a variety of seating for attendees, depending upon space. It is typical to have a room set with a mix of round tables toward the front of the room, rows of chairs in the middle or back area, and bar-height tables for standing behind the rows of chairs.

5. Connect with AGRiP Members

AGRiP programs bring together pool board members, executive staff, and new staff learning about public entity governance, finance, operations, and other topics. Although AGRiP member pools share common mission, membership, and basic organizational functions, there is less commonality in terms of organizational structure and local environmental factors. Each of our three conferences has different audiences.

6. Paperless Conference & Phone App

All AGRiP conferences are paperless. We use an app called Eventsential to make the conference agenda, speaker information and handouts available. Follow these steps to download Eventsential.
