Local Officials: Stronger Together Podcast Series Wins Award For Excellence

AUSTIN, TX - Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool (TML Risk Pool) has been selected for a prestigious Award for Excellence in Performance by the Association of Governmental Risk Pools (AGRiP) for its innovative Local Officials: Stronger Together Podcast Series.

This series of 15-minute podcast episodes (available at http://info.tmlirp.org/stp-podcast) is directed primarily at elected officials, city managers and city attorneys, but has found a much broader audience interested to learn more about risk pooling and its benefits for public entities.

TML Risk Pool has produced nearly 30 episodes of the podcast since starting it in 2021, with more than 2,500 downloads in just the first three years. Podcast topics range from technical issues (rate-setting, reinsurance) to important coverage and loss trend matters that directly impact the pool’s members. The podcast’s range is incredibly valuable and helps the pool demonstrate both the breadth and depth of its work on behalf of members.

“We’re proud to produce the Local Officials: Stronger, Together Podcast Series to help local officials, managers and staff understand key operational and legal concepts and the services the pool provides. After arming members with that information, each 15-minute episode also gives easy action items to help keep our members’ citizens, employees, volunteers and property safe, all while saving public dollars,” said Jeff Thompson, executive director of the TML Risk Pool.

The TML Risk Pool’s work serves as a model for other pools to consider in terms of both content and production. “The TML Risk Pool has produced a professional podcast, with highly relevant information and strong outcomes, using fairly simple technology that most of us already have access to,” said Barb Zemlock, AGRiP’s board president. “The effort the TML Risk Pool’s team puts into every episode is clear, but the format itself represents an accessible method that any pool can adopt.”

AGRiP’s Award for Excellence in Performance is given to a public entity risk pool that has developed and implemented a creative, efficient and effective idea, approach or program — especially one that can be shared with or transferred to other pools. The TML Risk Pool will receive its award on Tuesday, March 5 at Governance Conference 2024.
