One of the greatest strengths of the pooling community is learning from peers working through similar realities. While each pool operates within its own regulatory, geographic and organizational context, there are common experiences and issues that extend across the pooling community.
AGRiP collects and shares pooling experiences in a variety of ways, including visiting member pools. During recent visits with nine pools, we heard about a few common challenges:
-
Increasing numbers of sexual abuse and molestation claims as statutes of limitations are extended by state legislative bodies — These claims are not contained to school settings. Increasingly, claims stem from juvenile detention facilities, parks and recreation programs, and other public entity programs that include vulnerable populations.
-
Member entities seeking more frequent, competitive affirmation of pool pricing — Pools report their members are more frequently seeking competitive coverage quotes, and some pools are experiencing significant price competition from other markets. Member engagement around the true value of pooling in a commodity market and public entity budget constraints remains a top priority.
Let us know at any time if you’re interested in hearing more about the experiences of other public entity pools. We track pooling trends closely and share information through a variety of outlets, including direct presentations to member organizations.
