Recommendations from AI Champions

While AI offers real promise to pools, lasting progress from using it depends on its advocates. AGRiP regularly convenes a peer group of AI Champions, helping pools take meaningful steps toward adopting AI in responsible and practical ways. Our AI Champions recommend all pools:

Begin with Policy and Purpose

Develop an AI use policy that outlines appropriate use, sets boundaries and aligns technology with organizational values. This foundational work gives teams the clarity and confidence to move forward.

Grow Confidence Through Active Learning

Provide practical, hands-on learning opportunities for your pool team. Offer casual formats like lunch-and-learns, short demos or interactive workshops focused on real use cases — helping staff understand how AI applies to their day-to-day responsibilities.

Sharing curated resources — such as internal toolkits or AGRiP’s AI Learning Hub — can empower individuals to learn at their own pace. Many pools are finding success with peer-led sessions. When internal champions take the lead, it reinforces the idea that AI is accessible — and that everyone, regardless of their role or technical background, can actively participate in and benefit from the process.

Pilot Thoughtfully

Instead of launching large-scale AI initiatives from the outset, start with small projects that are easy to implement and deliver tangible value. Within the boundaries of your pool’s policies, use tools like ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot to:

  • Draft board or policy documents
  • Create member-facing communications
  • Develop training guides or risk management recommendations
  • Draft or edit emails to find the right tone and level of detail

Engage Everyone

AI adoption works best when staff feel included and informed. Integrate AI-related topics into regular staff meetings and create an open space for curiosity and discussion.

Use surveys, informal check-ins and other feedback loops to gauge how your team perceives and uses AI. For example, ask staff how AI could simplify or automate their work these insights often reveal the best opportunities to begin implementing AI solutions.

AI Champions recommend regularly engaging your governing body through open communication about AI’s potential, benefits and risks. Share real-world success stories and invite questions to facilitate understanding and buy-in.

Looking Ahead

AI is already helping pools streamline workflows, enhance member services and empower teams. The most successful efforts are based on a strong foundation of thoughtful policy and collaborative education.
