How To Work With Your AI Collaborator, Poppi

Available now exclusively for AGRiP members, Poppi is our AI knowledge assistant trained on the power of pooling (website login is required). Here are some tips and suggestions based on early Poppi interactions:

  • Engage with Poppi like a collaborator, not a search engine.

Poppi is trained to engage in conversation and won’t respond as well to search terms the way you might enter them into a search engine.

If you want to learn about financial benchmarks for pools, you might type “financial benchmarks for pools” into a search engine. In response, you’ll receive a list of links.

But Poppi is looking for clues about the kind of information to seek and summarize in response to your needs. Here’s a good prompt for Poppi: I’m giving a presentation to my pool governing body about financial benchmarks we can use to monitor our pool’s overall financial performance and well-being. What do you suggest I share as appropriate benchmarks for a pool?

  • Ask questions aligned with the way pools are likely to share information with their members.

Poppi is trained on the publicly accessible information provided on websites of pools and certain trusted organizations. Asking a question such as “What’s the average salary for a pool underwriting technician?” won’t generate helpful information, because pools aren’t detailing this kind of information publicly.

Based on the information Poppi can access, it’s best to ask more general questions framed in the same way pools present information on their websites. For instance: I’m a pool underwriting director and have been asked to develop an incentive program for members to form safety committees that meet regularly to address loss issues. What sorts of things should I be thinking about when it comes to developing the “right” approach to underwriting incentives?

  • Ask one question at a time.

Like many humans, Poppi does best if you ask one question at a time. Here’s an example of a good starting exchange with Poppi:

Hi, Poppi. I’m the claims manager for a liability pool in California. I’ve been asked to give a presentation about pool claim trends generally, and how those trends are playing out for my members. I’m just getting started on the presentation. What should I be thinking about?

[Poppi answers.]

Thanks. Can you tell me more about the specific liability claim trends most impactful in California right now?

[Poppi answers.]

  • Tell Poppi when you’re changing topics.

Poppi is having a real-time exchange with you and is processing information on the basis of the last several prompts you’ve given. If you are going to change direction in the conversation, be sure to say so. It works to say “I want to change direction now,” and then continue to describe the new topic area you’re interested in exploring.

Poppi is new and still being trained, and all of us are learning how to work most effectively with AI knowledge assistants. Watch this short video to learn more about Poppi and find additional tips on our website.
