Loss Control Specialist

Cities and Villages Mutual Insurance Company (CVMIC) is in the process of filling a newly created Loss Control Specialist position.  CVMIC currently provides liability, worker's compensation and auto physical damage coverage to cities and villages across the state of Wisconsin.  CVMIC is a market leader in terms of the scope of safety, risk management and loss control services provided to its members. In 2007 our loss control staff provided more than 700 regional and on-site programs covering nearly 90 different topics.

The Loss Control Specialist works under the general supervision of the Loss Control Manager to perform risk management, loss control and safety-related services at assigned member facilities.  Responsibilities include the development, review and modification of programs, policies and procedures for members; development and presentation of training programs; liaison to member safety committees, and serves as an in-house consultant on safety and loss control matters.  Position requires up to 75% travel with some overnight stays.

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Business Administration, Risk Management or Safety or equivalent; three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

California Joint Powers Insurance Authority

Finance Director 

The California JPIA is seeking a Finance Director in response to the retirement of the incumbent Finance Director after 26 years of service.   The successful candidate will plan, organize, manage and direct the programs and activities of the Financial Services Division of the Authority.  The successful candidate for this at-will position will, under general supervision, prepare, manage, and participate in preparing financial analyses and reports, coordinate the development of the Authority's budget, provide oversight of the investment advisor in the management of the Authority's investment portfolio, provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the CEO, AEO, and Authority staff on financial and accounting related matters, and supervise accounting staff.

This position requires education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, economics, business, public administration, or a related field.  The candidate must also have at least five years of management or administrative experience in fiscal management, accounting and/or administrative service functions in a public agency setting.  Knowledge of principles and practices of governmental accounting including financial statement preparation and methods of financial control and reporting; internal control and audit principles; and GAAP, GASB and GFOA accounting standards and requirements are also required.

Examples of essential functions and duties include:

  • Direct and ensure the timely and appropriate payment of Authority obligations, including payroll and accounts payable.
  • Oversee maintenance and monthly reconciliations of the general ledger and supervise the preparation of month-end journal entries.
  • Provide oversight of the investment advisor in the management of the Authority's investment portfolio (currently in excess of $180,000,000).
  • Generate the monthly trial balance, quarterly and annual financial statements for various Authority programs and funds.
  • Prepare the Authority's operating budget and facilitate budget reviews.
  • Prepare, or direct preparation of and review, financial reports for staff, the Executive Committee, and other governmental and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor developments related to finance and accounting matters, and evaluate their impact on Authority operations and financial programs.
  • Prepare RFPs and coordinate selection processes for various financial service providers and consultants.
  • Coordinate the gathering of data and information for the actuary's annual study. Review and analyze actuarial report.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of accounting staff; establish performance requirements and personal development measures.

Use of Personal Vehicle

The successful candidate will be required to use his/her own personal vehicle for travel and will be reimbursed at the applicable IRS mileage rate.  Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to comply with the provisions of the Authority's Vehicle Usage Policy.

Salary and Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $90,228 - $128,904 (revised salary range)
  • 4/10 work schedule, Monday - Thursday
  • Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). The California JPIA pays both the employee's and the employer's contribution to PERS/PARS (2.5% @ 55 formula)
  • A $600 per month cafeteria benefit plan to purchase medical (PERS Medical Program), vision, and dental benefits; employer paid medical benefits up to 80% PERSCare family rate
  • Employer paid Long-Term and Short-Term Disability, Life Insurance
  • Vacation: 80 hours (the first five years of continuous employment), accrual to 500 hours
  • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month, accrual to 500 hours
  • Holidays: 11 days each year, plus 32 hours of floating holiday leave
  • Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan ($60 employer match)
  • Section 125 Health/Dependent Care Plan

Safety Specialist

The Utah Counties Insurance Pool (UCIP) is seeking an experienced occupational safety professional to provide services to member counties throughout the state. This position reports to the Loss Control Manager.

Responsibilities include local and regional training and workshops, analysis of claims data to identify loss trends, development of model safety policies, and on-site consultation and inspections.

Qualified applicants must have consulting experience in the occupational safety & health industry. Applicant must have a working knowledge of compliance with various safety related regulations and standards including OSHA, ADA, DOT, ANSI and NFPA. CSP designation and experience with local government are desired.

Position requires proficient use of personal computers including Microsoft Office Suite software applications, and use of Internet for safety related research. Position requires regular travel and overnight trips. A valid driver's license is required.

The Alliance of Schools for Cooperative Insurance Programs (ASCIP), a nonprofit JPA serving l52 California schools/colleges seeks a Director of Health Benefits.  This is a senior management position responsible for ASCIP's Health Benefits Programs.  Responsibilities include strategic design and implementation of policies set by ASCIP's Governance Committees in order to develop, implement, market and manage competitive health benefits programs designed to deliver superior, innovative healthcare products and programs to our members.  Director will have primary responsibility for marketing of the program and will require excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.  Director will be responsible for selection, management and evaluation of service providers supporting the program as well as internal staff.  Basic understanding of underwriting principles, actuarial concepts related to rate setting and the professional health benefits community are required as are excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical terms clearly.  Individual will work in a politically sensitive environment and will interface with school/college business officials, employee groups including insurance committees, and leaders of multiple bargaining groups.
