AGRiP Fall Forum 2019

Starts:  Oct 6, 2019 09:00 (ET)
Ends:  Oct 9, 2019 11:45 (ET)
The AGRiP Fall Forum 2019 is a unique chance to learn from and network with people who are just as dedicated to public entity pooling as you are. Where else can you step into a community of people who understand exactly what it is you do and why pooling exists?

Whether it’s talking about emerging issues or digging into perennial topics, AGRiP’s Fall Forum gathers the brightest minds in public entity pooling to energize your work.

This program will present information across three tracks especially relevant to public entity pooling staff responsible for:

What to Expect:

“Aha!” moments. Deep conversations on topics shaping pooling. Dedicated time to problem-solve with peers and time to socialize with them as well. Old friends and new faces. A chance to learn, collaborate, energize and return to your pool with new ideas, new connections and a refreshed outlook.

Who You’ll See:

Your pooling peers from across the United States, Canada and Australia. QEI Patron members who are your pooling service partners.

Most attendees are pooling staff supporting financial practices, underwriting and risk management initiatives. Pool executives also regularly attend the Fall Forum, as do those serving as general counsels or in other roles.

Check out the registered attendee list to see who will be with you in Cleveland.

Where You'll Be:

The
Fall Forum will take place from October 6 to 9 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in the heart of Cleveland's downtown entertainment district.

Keynote Presentations

The Fall Forum will feature three keynote presentations:

  • A presentation about radical candor will help you work with others at your pool more effectively. You’ll learn how to address tough situations with communication that blends care for the individual with direct language.
  • A second keynote will encourage you to embrace rebel talent – i.e., those in your pool who sometimes dissent and break the rules. You’ll learn why it can be important to hear what your “troublemakers” have to say. For a sneak peek, watch why behavioral scientist Francesca Gino says embracing authenticity, curiosity and different viewpoints are in your pool’s best interest.
  • A panel of public entity pool leaders will share stories and solutions for how to navigate complex, volatile, and/or publicized risk management situations that arise when a public entity faces multiple, repeated, sensitive, and/or costly claims that could disproportionately burden the whole pool. Learn how three public entity pools created unique, member-driven processes, policies, and guidelines to identify high-risk members, mitigate repeat claims, and maintain overall pool health.

Concurrent Sessions

Through the rest of the conference, your public entity pool peers and other expert service providers will deliver content specifically geared towards the world of pooling. Take your pick from concurrent sessions offered in three tracks – Financial Management and Investment, Loss Control and Risk Management, and Underwriting –  which will cover a range of important, highly visible pooling issues including:

  • Child abuse claims in schools
  • Underwriting for PTSD presumptions
  • Creating policies for and testing capital adequacy
  • Internal controls and how to prevent employee fraud and theft
  • Underwriting property risks
  • Jail risk management liability and legal updates

We’re also bringing back Power of Pooling Roundtables. These sessions are a great chance to problem-solve with other pools about common topics.

Two additional blocks of sleeping rooms were added at two nearby hotels. About Cleveland

Learn more about the “Metropolis of the Western Reserve” (one of the many nicknames for Cleveland) and be sure to plan some pre- or post-conference time to visit:

  • A Christmas Story House: Check out the Tremont neighborhood to see the house from the famed 1983 film “A Christmas Story.” The culturally diverse neighborhood has an interesting small-town feel and features many architecturally unique churches.
  • A Viking Bar: Check out LBM, a neighborhood bar named by Men’s Journal as one of the 19 best undiscovered cocktail bars in America.
  • The Great Lake: Cleveland is on Lake Erie, one of the nation’s Great Lakes. Check out the beaches and get some training in for your next triathlon. Or just stand agog and admire one of our continent’s magnificent inland seas.
