OMAG’s Bill Tackett Honored with Service Award

Bill Tackett, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships with Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group (OMAG) has been selected for a prestigious Award for Excellence in Service by the Association of Governmental Risk Pools (AGRiP).Bill Tackett

“Bill is the epitome of a public servant and his career and volunteerism is proof of his dedication to public entities,” said Suzanne Paulson, OMAG’s CEO.

Bill’s entire career has been in public service beginning in human resources for two Oklahoma cities and then as city manager for cities in Oklahoma and Texas. During that time, he voluntarily served on his local school board, the chamber of commerce and OMAG’s board.

Bill worked for eight years as the membership practices director for AGRiP. In this role, he provided information on pool operations and coverage questions, developed and managed AGRiP Advisory Standards for Recognition, and was editor of the former Operations Manual for Public Entity Risk Pools. This work has impacted the foundational knowledge of hundreds of pools that have engaged with AGRiP’s programs and resources.

“Bill’s numerous contributions are spread across a 30-year career of involvement in public service and the public pooling industry,” said Harold Pumford, former AGRiP executive director. “In my mind, no one has contributed more — from as many dimensions — to build and develop AGRiP into the organization it is today.”

In his current role as director of strategic initiatives and partnerships for OMAG, Bill has influenced Oklahoma’s municipalities by developing several risk management programs and notably a recognition program for member governing bodies. His most recent initiative has been to create an interlocal for municipalities with natural gas distribution.

In addition to his OMAG work, Bill continues to support and serve all pools through AGRiP, as a member of the Membership Practices Committee (MPC) and its current committee chair. “It is an honor to publicly recognize the impactful contributions he has made to AGRiP, our member pools and their member entities,” said Barbara Rhoades, AGRiP Board President. “Bill is well known in our community for his diplomacy, dedication and advocacy.”

AGRiP’s Award for Excellence in Service recognizes an individual who notably promotes and enhances the field of public entity pooling through significant contributions to the industry, and whose dedication has had a demonstrable impact on the quality and services provided by or to member pools. Bill will receive his award at AGRiP’s Governance Conference on March 6 in Orlando, FL.
