AGRiP has learned of a “poaching” attempt targeting attendee hotel arrangements at our 2017 Fall Educational Forum. Hotel bookings made with poachers typically include hidden fees and exorbitant cancellation penalties. AGRiP is actively working to eliminate this problem for conference attendees.
Two companies – Exhibitor Housing Management and Exhibition Housing – have approached Fall Forum attendees via phone calls, offering discounted room rates to the AGRiP conference event. These companies are known within the events industry and by the Better Business Bureau as wrongly representing themselves as the conference sponsor to gain trust.
Any request for information or solicitation regarding AGRiP conference attendance or hotel reservations that does not come from an AGRiP staff member is unauthorized, and may be a scam.
AGRiP does not work with outside event housing agencies and does not make direct calls to members or speakers for hotel reservations. All email communications and website links for AGRiP events contain “agrip.org.” If you are unsure whether a written or phone communication about an AGRiP event is valid, please contact Communications Coordinator Michelle Leonard or Meeting Planner Trina Avalos.
Although poachers typically target larger events at national hub venues, they can also disrupt local conferences. Aside from mindfulness around industry conferences and trainings you might attend, pools that host conferences or large meetings for their members may also wish to learn more about events poaching.
