Things to do in San Diego

AGRiP staff has arranged two pre-conference tours for conference attendees and guests. The tours, offered March 4, are designed to help you learn your way around this historic city. Tours can be signed up for at the time of conference registration.

The tours offered include:

  • Old Town Trolley Tour: Hop-On, Hop-Off (1-5 p.m., Sunday, March 4) includes a two-hour narrated tour of this historic city and two, 1-hour blocks of time to explore and experience Old Town and Hotel del Coronado, where Marilyn Monroe's "Some Like It Hot" was filmed. Cost: $35 per person.
  • Old Town Trolley Tour: City Highlights (2-4 p.m., Sunday, March 4) is a 2-hour narrated tour of historic San Diego and includes 125 city sights including the Gaslamp District, Balboa Park, and much more. Cost: $30 per person.

Conference attendees and guests can arrange on their own to visit the USS Midway, the nation's longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century. Named after the Battle of Midway of June 1942, this aircraft carrier was built in only 17 months. It missed World War II by only one week when it was commissioned Sept. 10, 1945, and has a fascinating history.

Due to exceptionally limited hours and limited docent-led tours, AGRiP was not able to arrange a group tour for conference attendees and guests.

The USS Midway is located about 1.5 miles from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and can be reached by foot, taxi, or via a rideshare service.

Ticket information and hours are available on the USS Midway website.

PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres baseball team, is next door to the Omni San Diego Hotel and across the street from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

The Hotel Del Coronado, a historic hotel at which Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis filmed "Some Like it Hot," is fewer than five miles from the main conference hotel.
